Statement from Varshini Prakash, founder of Sunrise Movement, after Trump administration attempts to bury a vital climate report by releasing the day after Thanksgiving
“The Trump administration’s decision to release this report the day after Thanksgiving is a blatant attempt to bury it’s critically-important contents.
“Trump and his fossil fuel lobbyist friends clearly don’t want the public to see that climate change is hurting Americans of all walks of life right now: from the farmers facing droughts, to the people losing their homes and family members to record storms and fires, to the 100 million Americans who will see their air quality worsen due to climate change.
“The message of this report, along with the latest UN report is clear: we only have a decade to take unprecedented action to transform our economy in order to protect human civilization as we know it.
“Over the past two weeks, thousands of young people with Sunrise have taken action to demand politicians back a Green New Deal that would transform our economy and society in line with the latest science. Any politician taking this report seriously should support Ocasio-Cortez’s select committee on a Green New Deal, which is the only proposal to take action at the speed and scale we need.”
