Sunrise is a creative movement–working together across the country to build the world we want to live in. We all have that creativity in us– but to tell the story of our movement, we’ve also got to hone our craft. Sunrise Creative School is our own little art school–but it’s art school for the movement. You don’t need to be experienced in any of these skills to take a class (but you’re welcome to be, too!)
These classes meet twice a week over 3 weeks. The start and end dates of each course are listed individually, below.
Who should apply to Sunrise Creative School: These are classes designed for Sunrisers who are excited to take on creative leadership roles in their hub. Members or prospective members of hub art, social media, video, and press teams are welcome and encouraged to apply. New Sunrisers are also totally welcome! Anyone who has taken Movement Building 101 or been involved with a hub or strike circle is eligible to apply.

Graphic Design Skills, Tools, and Strategies for Organizing
Building off of Sunrise School’s Graphic Design for Organizing course, this series of 6 online trainings will cover the tools and skills every movement designer needs to know. Led by Sunrise’s Graphic Design Lead Role Network, we will:
- Strategize best practices for designing with the Sunrise Style Guide
- Learn how to add motion to our designs
- Apply messaging frameworks to make our graphics more compelling
- Finally feel comfortable designing with the Adobe Creative Cloud
- Build creative community and leadership in the Graphic Design Lead Network
Schedule: 3-week training meeting twice a week on Wed and Fri from 3:30-5pm ET (12:30-2pm PT), June 24th – July 10th.

Visual Art as an Organizing Tool
Are you a creative thinker who believes in the power of art to change the world? Have you ever seen a picture of Sunrisers in action and been like “wow, those people look so powerful?” Do you sometimes feel like art is all we need, but other times wonder how we’re actually going to pull that off? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions… this class is for you!
Over 3 weeks, we’ll be digging deep in to Sunrise’s visual strategy, the ideas and tools we use to make art together that makes our message clear, shows the power of our actions, and grows our movement.
Long-time Sunrisers and newcomers both welcome! This class is for anyone in a hub who is active in their art team or helps make art for protests who wants to up their skills and strategy, and also for creatively inclined folks who are new to Sunrise and excited about putting their creativity to strategic use in our movement!

Video Production as an Organizing Tool
Have you ever wanted to learn more about video production, fight for a People’s Bailout and a Green New Deal, and meet an awesome crew of creative people across the country? WELL, have we got the training for you. In the time of COVID-19, there are so many stories that need to be told. That’s why we’re continuing to build a mass media network to tell the story of why our communities need a shift to a caring economy, millions of good green jobs, and action on climate change.
In these 6 trainings, You’ll learn video strategy, messaging, and production, and get the skills you’ll need to become a leader for the Video Network in your region and help grow this network. No experience for fancy camera equipment required to join, just enthusiasm and dedication to learning.
